Fr. Dominic Petan is originally from Joliet, Illinois. The third of four siblings, he attended Saint Mary Nativity and Joliet Catholic Academy in Joliet before attending and graduating from Kettering University (formerly GMI Engineering and Management Institute) in Flint, Michigan with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, he moved to Indiana and spent nearly six years working for Delphi Automotive Electronics in Kokomo, while residing in Carmel (making Our Lady of Mount Carmel his home parish). He entered the seminary in August 2006 at Saint Meinrad Seminary in southern Indiana. He was ordained a priest in 2012 and served as a parochial vicar at All Saints in Logansport, where he later was named pastor. He then served as rector/pastor of St. Mary’s Cathedral in Lafayette. Currently, Fr. Petan serves full-time as the Vicar for Clergy and Director of Seminarians for the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana.
